I dont mind the connection, speaking for myself, but for a beta with 'free isk' being thrown around from a test server, its bs. Especially since its clear the tournament will be a dropship-tank fielding game. Since the free isk allows you to just spawn more without punishment, it does take away a lot from the gameplay, no point for SPs in infantry classes... forge guns can be good, but when they keep spawning in they become arbitrary.
It does address a problem with just having strictly vehicle heavy games, and im not someone who ever complains about vehicles, but i never complained because i understood the cost associated with them. There is no longer any cost, and its a beta tournament. Should be some type of cieling on isk usage or some fashion like that for a tournament.
In nullsec/FW scenarios when game actually launches, im sure there will be a lot of whoring, but atleast that will be with real money. They may need to figure out some things still, it will kill some player base to have strict vehicle warfare.
Edit: You may argue, "exactly, its a beta, let people get wild"... and there is a good point and a fallacy in this:
1) Good point: Okay, maybe your right. If the game at launch is going to be a ton of eve players pumping money in dust-side, then this is a realistic image of what Dust will be like. But that raises some huge problems with gameplay, when organized groups will have to start saying to players "**** your infantry SP, go everything vehicles" and maybe some heavies for some more sneaky AV support.
2) Why there should be change: If one assumes CCP wants to change this, then having the tournament (which is really just a test for CCP to see how things are balanced, aside from a PR boost), they should probably put some hotfixes in... because its already clear vehicles will be abused. Should start sampling now imo. At least a tournament should have a limit or wipe on it, i would like to imagine it can be on more proper ground, but i understand arguments of 1).
I suppose the tournament will be something for them to observe exactly where they can fix the balances by viewing dominant teams, but tbh it will be clear by the end of round robins, because it will be vehicle spam, and best team will have the most skilled in it. |
